Former National League MVP and Cy Young winner Don Newcombe has passed away at the age of 92

Don Newcombe, former Brooklyn Dodger and 1956 National League MVP and Cy Young Award winner, has passed away at the age of 94, the Dodgers announced today.

Newcombe had a short but successful career, winning the N.L. Rookie of the Year Award in 1949, and had strong performances in 1950 and 1951 from the Dodgers before missing the next two years due to military service for the Korean War. Newcombe came back and excelled from 1954-57, then struggled in the Dodgers’ first season in Los Angeles in 1958 before being traded to Cincinnati.
