For the Texas Rangers, the offseason will be about taking big steps in the rebuilding process that will only make small immediate footprints in the major league product. The rebuilding plan got started in earnest early in the season; the offseason allows for the implementation of infrastructure.
Here are five storylines to watch this offseason:
Finding a manager
Um, duh. But, hey, don’t rush this either. The manager may work in concert with the general manager, but he is no longer central to putting together the roster and putting together an organizational philosophy. It would be nice to have somebody in place by mid-October, but if it takes the whole month to be meticulously thorough, it’s worth it.
