The Texas Rangers interviewed Joe Girardi, former New York Yankees and Miami Marlins manager, today, per Evan Grant. This is after reportedly interviewing Jayce Tingler, Brandon Hyde and Joe Espada yesterday.
This is interesting, as Jon Daniels, in his previous two managerial searches, has generally looked at candidates who were younger and didn’t have the managerial experience Girardi does. Girardi, a former 15 year major league catcher, managed the Marlins in 2006 and the Yankees from 2008-17.
Texas is reputed to have done background work on a number of other candidates, and I suspect will do interviews with up to a half-dozen other folks before winnowing the list down and conducting a second round of interviews with finalists.
