Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus, an iron man, is expected to go on the disabled list for the first time in his 10-year major league career after the Rangers announced Thursday that he suffered an olecranon fracture in his right elbow and will be out six to eight weeks.
The good news is the injury won't require surgery, though Andrus will have to keep the elbow in a splint.
Andrus' elbow was fractured after being hit by a 97 mph fastball from Los Angeles Angels reliever Kenyan Middleton in the ninth inning of Wednesday’s game.
Manager Jeff Banister indicated Jurickson Profar will get playing time at shortstop during Andrus’ absence.
