Texas Rangers pitcher Doug Fister, who has been on the disabled list since early June with a knee injury, will not return this season, it was revealed yesterday. Fister, 34, had a 4.50 ERA and a 5.25 FIP in 66 innings over 12 starts for the Rangers this year.
Fister was the first free agent to sign this offseason, and got a $3.5 million deal for 2018, with a $4.5 million option for 2019 that carries a $500,000 buyout. The option is cheap enough that it was thought the option could be exercised, particularly if he returned in September and pitched decently.
