Dave Dombrowski out as Detroit Tigers g.m.

Dave Dombrowski has been "released from his contract" with the Detroit Tigers in order to pursue other opportunities, according to reports.

Dombrowski was the president, CEO and general manager of the Tigers, and had been with the team since 2002. Dombrowski was a finalist, along with John Hart, to replace Doug Melvin as the Rangers' g.m. prior to the 2002 season, with Tom Hicks opting to hire Hart because Hart agreed for Grady Fuson to come on board as assistant g.m. and eventual successor.

This is a rather shocking move, coming just four days after the trade deadline, when Dombrowski dealt David Price and Yoenis Cespedes in an effort to re-stock a farm system that was in shambles.
