HOUSTON -- Rangers pitcher Bartolo Colon flirted with history at the age of 44, in his 21st Major League season and 530th career start.
Colon took a perfect game into the eighth inning against the Astros on Sunday night, and had he completed the feat, it would have been the 24th such performance in MLB history. In addition, Colon would have passed Nolan Ryan (44 years, 90 days on May 1, 1991) to become the oldest pitcher to throw a no-hitter by 235 days. Randy Johnson (40 years, 252 days on May 18, 2004) is the oldest player to throw a perfect game.
