The Texas Rangers on Monday beefed up their pitching operation by bringing back Colby Lewis and bringing in former New York Mets coach Dan Warthen.
Lewis, who won 77 games with the Rangers from 2002-04 and '10-16, will serve as a special assistant to general manager Jon Daniels. Lewis' primary duty will be working with minor league pitchers.
Warthen will serve as assistant pitching coach. Warthen was the Mets' pitching coach from June 2008 through the end of this season, when he was swept out along with manager Terry Collins.
Warthen was also pitching coach for Seattle (1992), San Diego (1996-97) and Detroit (1999-2002).
