SAN FRANCISCO - Here is the residue of a season gone awry early: A ton of experience for young players.
Like a historical amount of experience.
In Sunday's 3-1 loss to San Francisco, the Rangers started six players aged 25 or younger. They came to the plate 23 times. It pushed the number of plate appearances by players 25 or younger to 3,119 for the season.
The Rangers are a little more than 100 plate appearances shy of setting a new team record for plate appearances by 25-and-unders. They will break that before rosters are expanded Saturday.
