The Texas Rangers have announced that general manager Chris Young has signed a multi-year contract extension, and have also added the title of president of baseball operations to Young’s general manager title.
Young was hired as general manager after the 2020 season, working under president of baseball operations Jon Daniels. Daniels, of course, was fired in August, 2022, with the president of baseball operations position essentially being vacant while Young maintained the general manager position and was the top baseball guy.
Given that the Rangers won the 2023 World Series, and given that Young’s deal was up at the end of the 2024 season, one would have thought that this would have been done much earlier.
