The Texas Rangers Opening Day roster is gaining more clarity, with manager Chris Woodward saying today that outfielder Willie Calhoun, who was thought likely to start the year on the injured list after straining his hip, is expected to be active when the season starts. Though Calhoun is not expected to be in the lineup for Game 1, he is expected to be ready to go soon enough that there’s no need to go on the i.l.
In addition, Woodward confirmed that the Rangers will have three catchers on the roster to start the season, meaning Jose Trevino will join veterans Robinson Chirinos and Jeff Mathis on the roster.
