Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants catcher, is announcing his retirement Thursday, according to Andrew Baggerly of the Athletic.
Posey is just 34, and after skipping the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he had a very strong 2021 campaign, putting up an 889 OPS in 454 plate appearances and being named to the All Star team for the seventh time. Posey has a career .302/.372/.460 slash line and 44.9 career bWAR, good for 16th all time among catchers.
Posey was the fifth overall pick in the 2008 draft by the Giants out of Florida State. He won the Rookie of the Year Award in 2010, the Most Valuable Player Award in 2012, four Silver Slugger Awards and a Gold Glove, and has three World Series rings.
