The Boston Red Sox and free agent pitcher Walker Buehler have agreed to terms on a one year, $21.05 million deal, per reports. The deal reportedly includes $2.5 million in potential performance bonuses.
If you are thinking that the $21.05 million number is odd, that’s also the number that was the amount a player who accepted the Qualifying Offer this year would have received. Buehler did not get QO’d by the Dodgers, though maybe Scott Boras really wanted to match that number in terms of the guarantee. In addition, since Buehler wasn’t QO’d, Boston can tender him the Qualifying Offer after 2025 and land a draft pick if he has a strong season.
