Today is Buddy Bell’s 73rd birthday, and thus is a good day for me to mention, once again, that Buddy Bell should be in the Hall of Fame.
We know the backstory by now — son of four-time All Star outfielder Gus Bell, father of major league third basemen David Bell and Mike Bell (yes, Mike made the majors, very briefly), acquired from the Cleveland Indians by the Rangers prior to the 1979 season for Toby Harrah in a straight up challenge trade, went on a run of six straight Gold Glove Awards, four All Star appearances and five appearance on MVP ballots while with Texas.
