Texas Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun suffered a broken forearm on a second inning hit by pitch, the team announced. Calhoun, who was the DH today, stayed in the game initially, but was replaced by Andy Ibanez the next time his spot in the order came up.
This is terrible news for Calhoun, who was hit in the face by a pitch in spring training, 2020, an incident that was the first of a variety of injuries that made 2020 a lost campaign for him. The 26 year old was slashing .254/.320/.385 coming into today’s game.
David Dahl, who has been out on a rehab assignment first with Round Rock and now with Frisco, will presumably be activated from the injured list to replace Calhoun.
