The Chicago Cubs and pitcher Matthew Boyd have agreed to terms on a two year deal worth $29 million, per reports.
Boyd, a lefthander who turns 34 in February, was on an upward trajectory as a solid mid-rotation starter for the Tigers in the late teens, peaking in 2019 with a 3.8 bWAR in 185 innings over 32 starts. He had an awful 2020 season, however, and has thrown just 202 innings the past four seasons, which included stints in the Detroit rotation in 2021 and 2023, a month long stay in the Mariners bullpen in 2022, and eight starts for Cleveland in 2024.
