The Kansas City Royals and Billy Hamilton are close on a deal, according to multiple reports on the Tweetbox. Hamilton was non-tendered by the Cincinnati Reds last month.
Hamilton is a very Kansas City Royals player, a really really fast guy with defensive chops who doesn’t hit at all. There had been some talk about the Rangers having some interest in him in the past, as an elite defensive center fielder who could do damage on the basepaths, but Hamilton at this point would be, at best, a marginal upgrade over Delino DeShields, and if you aren’t going to play DeShields in center field every day this year, you’re probably better off sticking Joey Gallo in center so that you can get Willie Calhoun, Nomar Mazara and Shin-Soo Choo all in the lineup.
