Bieber returns to Cleveland, per reports

Free agent pitcher Shane Bieber and the Cleveland Guardians have agreed to terms on a deal, per multiple reports. Bieber is reportedly receiving $10 million in 2025, and has a $16 million player option for 2026 with a $4 million buyout.

Bieber, 29, was a fourth round pick of Cleveland in 2016 out of UC-Santa Barbara, and has spent his entire career with the team. He finished fourth in the American League in the Cy Young balloting in 2019 — his sophomore campaign — and won the Cy Young Award in 2020. Bieber missed part of 2021, then had a 2022 season which included a solid ERA but worrisome underlying metrics, particularly a K-rate which dropped by around 30%.
