Banister tossed early in opener with Mariners

ARLINGTON -- Rangers manager Jeff Banister was ejected in the second inning of Friday night's game against the Mariners by third-base umpire Chris Guccione for arguing on Ketel Marte's two-run double.

The Mariners had runners at second and third with two out when Marte hit a grounder down the third-base line. The ball went over the base and then landed into foul territory. Guccione called it fair and the first two runs of the game scored. According to MLB rules, a ground ball is fair if it goes over the base before landing in foul territory.
