Dustin Fowler has been traded from the Oakland A’s to the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash, it has been announced today. Fowler had been designated for assignment earlier this week to make room on the 40 man roster for Trevor Rosenthal.
We talked about Fowler when the A’s DFA’d him — he’s a 26 year old former well regarded prospect who has not been the same since wrecking his knee in a collision with a wall in the first inning of his first major league game. He’s out of options, so a team acquiring him would have to put him on waivers to send him down, but he’s someone who makes sense for a rebuilding team like the Pirates to take a chance on.
