Longtime major league umpire Angel Hernandez is retiring, per multiple reports. The retirement would take effect Tuesday — tomorrow — so if this is correct, Hernandez has handled his final major league game as an umpire.
The 62 year old Hernandez has been a major league umpire since 1991. During that time, he developed a bad reputation among players and fans alike due to a combination of not being good at his job and being unnecessarily confrontational. Former Ranger Ian Kinsler was fined during his time with the Detroit Tigers when he said that Hernandez was a bad umpire who needed to find another job.
