Alonso returns to the Mets, per reports

Pete Alonso and the New York Mets have agreed to terms on a two year deal with an opt-out after year one, per multiple reports. The deal will pay Alonso $30 million in 2025 and, if he doesn’t opt out, $24 million in year two.

Alonso returning to the Mets always seemed like the most likely outcome to his free agency saga. The 30 year old had spent his entire career with the Mets, and the team made it clear they wanted him back.

However, Alonso apparently was seeking a more lucrative long-term deal than the Mets were willing to do.
