SportsDay's Rangers insider Evan Grant and photographer Smiley N. Pool traveled to Puerto Rico this offseason to go behind the scenes with Rangers pitcher Alex Claudio during a visit back to his destroyed hometown.
Nearly six months ago Hurricane Maria ravaged the island, and with recovery efforts still ongoing, the Rangers reliever was able to make his first trip back home earlier this offseason.
Claudio returned, in part, to workout with one of his long-time trainers and to participate in an abbreviated Puerto Rican Liga Roberto Clemente winter season.
Claudio works back home with trainer and mentor Luis Cadiz who, for some of their offseason workouts, arranged for the pitcher to use a community pool in a gated subdivision in San Juan.
