TORONTO - A.J. Griffin left the Rangers' game Friday night in the bottom of the second, moments after allowing a grand slam to Toronto's Devin Travis.
Griffin departed after grabbing his side. He was diagnosed with a left intercostal muscle (near the rib cage) strain after striking out Ezequiel Carrera for the first out of the inning. He walked Justin Smoak and Troy Tulowitzki around a single by Russell Martin before allowing the grand slam. Griffin was replaced by Austin Bibens-Dirkx. Griffin will be re-evaluated Saturday.
The Rangers already have one pitcher on the disabled list with an oblique injury: Left-hander Cole Hamels.
