Nearly 13 years after being drafted No. 1 overall by his hometown San Diego Padres, Matt Bush finally walked into Petco Park as a major leaguer Monday.
Bush spent about 15 minutes answering questions from San Diego-area media about his journey to the majors, which included a public battle with alcoholism and a three-year prison sentence after running over a motorcyclist. Bush, however, stayed in the present.
"I wish things would have worked out here, but I'm thrilled more than ever to be here tonight," Bush said. "It's today. I'm not looking at the past. [San Diego] is the team that drafted me.
