Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton was eligible to resume his rehab assignment on Friday. However, the Dallas Morning News reports Hamilton won't do so Friday and there is no timetable for his return.
Hamilton began his rehab stint last Saturday, but didn't last long. Hamilton lasted just four innings in his first game before leaving because of soreness and weakness behind his left knee. Hamilton has undergone two surgeries on the knee since Sept. 1st.
Given Hamilton's string of injuries in recent years, the Rangers don't expect him to be 100 percent again.
"I don’t think that’s anybody’s expectation at this point. It’s more about getting to a level where he’s comfortable playing on it," GM Jon Daniels told the Star-Telegram. I think the question is he’ll come back at what level? What is the new normal going to be?"
On the bright side for the Rangers, they aren't paying any of Hamilton's salary this season. That was part of the deal when the Los Angeles Angels trade Hamilton to Texas. Still, the Rangers would love for Hamilton and his still-productive bat to contribute at some point this year.
