Yu Darvish is pitching out of his mind. That is especially important because it is September, and the games start to matter with less than a month left. With only a 4.5 game lead over the Oakland A's and a 6 game lead over the LA Angels, things looked tricky for the defending AL champs.
Yu Darvish took this race into his own hands.
In his last 5 starts, Darvish is 2-1 with a 2. 52 ERA while tallying 42 strikeouts to only 11 walks. Early in the season, Darvish was extremely proficient, mowing down batters. As teams got a second look at him though, Darvish struggled with his control. He walked an inordinate number of hitters, and he was often rattled.
As we get toward the playoffs, Darvish seems to have found his groove. Texas is 4-1 in his last five starts, and opposing hitters are only managing a .161 batting average against him in that stretch.
With the race to the playoffs nearing its end, Darvish could be the boost the Rangers need to push to a 3rd consecutive World Series berth.
