Prince Fielder Scheduled For Season-Ending Neck Surgery

The Texas Rangers have been dealt a huge blow tonight as superstar first baseman Prince Fielder will be forced to undergo season-ending neck surgery.

Per Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors, "GM Jon Daniels has informed reporters on a conference call that Fielder is scheduled for season-ending surgery next Tuesday. They will seek one final opinion before proceeding with the procedure, but surgery appears to be a near certainty."

According to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Fielder told reporters that he was "seriously considering" the surgery earlier today due to a herniated disk which has been causing weakness in his left arm by pinching a nerve in his neck.

This comes as another catastrophic injury for a Rangers team that has seen its share of them already in 2014. Along with coming into the season knowing they'd be without starting pitcher Derek Holland till after the All-Star break, the team has lost Martin Perez to Tommy John surgery and Matt Harrison to a back injury which may be career-threatening.

Geovany Soto and Jurickson Profar are also currently out for a depleted Rangers team that may now have to scramble to stay afloat in a very tough A.L. West.
