The Texas Longhorns have suffered the worst loss of the Charlie Strong era, losing 24-21 to Kansas in overtime. The win snapped KU's 23-game losing streak to FBS opponents, and it may keep Texas (5-6) from even reaching a bowl game this season. Here are three things we learned from the game:
3) D'Onta Foreman is one of the best backs in Texas history
There is more than enough negatives to talk about from this game, so let's start with a positive - D'Onta Foreman is one of the very best running backs to have ever played for the Longhorns. His 250 yards (on 51 carries!!) marked his 12th straight game with over 100 rushing yards, breaking Earl Campbell's school record. Foreman also now has 1,863 rushing yards this season, which ranks 3rd on Texas' all-time list - which is just 261 yards shy of Ricky Williams' record in 1998.
Keep in mind, Foreman also missed Texas' win over UTEP earlier in the season. He has been a MAJOR bright spot in a season full of struggles everywhere else.
2) This team has no margin for error
You'd think that a team with as much talent as Texas would roll over a team as a bad as Kansas, even if they didn't play anywhere near their best. Well, the Longhorns played their worst game of the year, and it turns out, they didn't have that margin for error. Texas turned the ball over six times and where just 3/17 on third down - two stats that absolutely killed them.
1) Charlie Strong will be fired very, very soon
Strong was on the hot seat coming into the season, but seemed to save his job with a win over Notre Dame. However, they lost four of their next six games, putting him right back on the hot seat. Again, he halted that talk with wins over Baylor and Texas Tech, but a loss to West Virginia didn't give him any room for error.
All that pressure on him, and Texas comes out and suffers arguably the worst loss in program history. He made Texas AD Mike Perrin's decision very, very easy. It's now only a matter of time until Charlie Strong gets fired, and will likely come before the weekend ends.
