The Texas Longhorns are turning up the heat on the recruiting trail during the offseason, and it's already paying dividends. Here's all the latest news and rumors surrounding Texas' recruiting efforts:
Ehlinger earns Elite 11 invite
Four-star QB Sam Ehlinger (Austin, TX), a Texas commit, was earned an Elite 11 invitation after winning the MVP and the "most coachable" award at the Elite 11 Finals.
The Elite 11 competition will be held in July at Nike's headquarters in Oregon.
The 6'2", 215-pounder is ranked as the No. 6 dual-threat quarterback and No. 150 overall prospect in the country.
4-star CB "excited" by offer
Texas offered four-star 2018 cornerback Anthony Cook (Houston, TX) at their minicamp over the weekend, and it came as a relief to Cook.
“That was a big offer because it was one I was waiting on,” Cook said, via 247sports. “I know that UT doesn’t like to offer early, so I was really excited. After the camp, Coach (Clay) Jennings called my mom and told us. It was amazing. We were both excited.”
Cook already has offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida State and Michigan, among others, but the Longhorns are right at the top for him.
“I don’t have a Top 5, but they would definitely be in it,” Cook said. “I like Coach (Clay) Jennings. They do a lot of press and allow you to show off your abilities. It’s DBU. If you play with good defensive backs, you can become a better defensive back.”
The 6'0", 170-pounder is ranked as the No. 6 cornerback and No. 66 overall prospect in the 2018 class.
