National Signing Day is just two days away, and as such, Tom Herman & Co. are putting the finishing touches on what is shaping up to be a quality recruiting class. That means there's plenty to get to around Texas football recruiting. Here are all the latest Texas recruiting news and rumors you need to know.
Longhorns favored to land 3-star WR
Three-star wide receiver Jordan Pouncey (Winter Park, FL) decommitted from Notre Dame this month and visited Miami, Texas and Tennessee, and now the Longhorns are the favorite to land him.
“I loved it," Pouncey said of his visit to Texas. "The coaching staff and players were great. The city of Austin is awesome. I could definitely see myself there.
“They’re all great guys and Coach (Tom) Herman is full of energy, so it’s fun to be around him. I think the players are really starting to buy into what he’s bringing to the University of Texas. He basically said that we have receivers, but we have receivers that went 5-7 two years in a row. We’re expecting you to come in here and compete for a starting job. We’re going to take care of you and we want to see you make plays.”
The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder is ranked as the No. 106 wide receiver and No. 730 overall prospect in the country.
Texas is the "team to beat" for 4-star OL
Herman and his staff have made four-star offensive tackle Stephan Zabie one of their top overall targets for this class, and those efforts are paying off. He took his official visit to Austin on Thursday, and according to Holland, the Longhorns are now the "team to beat" for his services.
The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder is ranked as the No. 23 offensive tackle and No. 246 overall prospect in the country.
Longhorns expect to flip 3-star OL
One of Herman's biggest priorities since taking over the Texas job was to flip some of Houston's top commits, and he has been largely successful in doing so. They're also expected to flip three-star offensive lineman Samuel Cosmi, according to EJ Holland of 247sports:
While he hasn't flipped to Texas yet, I’m told that the three-star prospect did enjoy his time on the Forty Acres and had productive meetings with head coach Tom Herman and offensive line coach Derek Warehime.
Horns247 still expects Cosmi to side with Texas over Houston. It’s just a matter of when for the Longhorns.
If Texas does somehow end up missing on Cosmi, it would be a huge disappointment. Cosmi told Horns247 earlier this month that he would strongly consider flipping to Texas and loved the program.
Cosmi is ranked as the No. 105 offensive tackle and No. 1107 overall prospect in the country.
UPDATE: Cosmi announced on Twitter that he has indeed flipped his commitment and will sign with Texas on Wednesday.
I am so excited and proud to say I will be a longhorn!!!
