The Texas Longhorns have struggled this season, posting a 4-6 record. That's led to speculation about the future of head coach Charlie Strong and placed Texas at the center of the rumor mill. With that in mind, here are the latest Texas Football Rumors: Everything You Need To Know About Coach Strong, Recruiting And More:
Strong Shoots Down Miami Rumors
Strong has been linked to the open Miami Hurricanes job, but Strong did his best to put an end to those rumors Wednesday.
“It’s all a rumor,” Strong said. “We’re here to build a program. That’s why I came here ... I have an unbelievable job here. I don't know where that comes from."
If Texas continues to struggle under strong, the rumor mill will continue to churn regarding his job status.
Texas Would Pursue Saban If Strong Leaves
This rumor sounds familiar. Once again, there is a report that claims Texas would pursue current Alabama head coach Nick Saban if Strong leaves or is fired. Pretty much everything is the same from the last time Texas and Saban were linked, including that Texas would pay a ton for Saban.
Texas Coaches Wanted For Testimony
The lawsuit over Texas' offensive line coach Joe Wickline continues to go on. Oklahoma State is seeking $600,000 in a breach-of-contract lawsuit. Texas would only be able to avoid paying the money if Wickline took a position that included play-calling duties. The Cowboys say that's not the case. Oklahoma State wants Strong, QB Tyrone Swoopes, former Texas AD Steve Patterson and several other assistants to testify in a trial scheduled for May 2016.
WR Davion Curtis Commits To Longhorns
The Longhorns have picked up a commitment from Curtis, a three-star WR. It's a dream come true for Curtis, who backed out of an offer from Georgia to commit to Texas.
“I wanted to be a Longhorn for as far back as I can remember,” Curtis said. “I always dreamed of it when I played Pop Warner. My family loves Texas, so I loved Texas growing up. Making the commitment means so much to me and my family.”
Texas Evaluating JUCO QB
Texas has yet to find a true replacement for Colt McCoy, although Jerrod Heard is trying to stake his claim this season. But the Longhorns are still searching for quarterbacks, and that might include a JUCO. Texas is reportedly checking out four-star QB Jerod Evans, who has two years of eligibility left. He already has offers from Cal and Memphis, with Auburn and Oregon also evaluating the QB.
