The college football season doesn't start for roughly two months, giving the Texas Longhorns plenty of time to focus on recruiting. Texas has turned up the heat on the recruiting trail during the offseason, and it's already paid off with six commitments - not including the players Texas landed after the Baylor scandal - but the Longhorns are far from done. Here are the latest news and rumors surrounding Texas football recruiting.
Longhorns to flip TCU commit?
Three-star cornerback Josh Thompson (Nacogdoches, TX) committed to TCU last month, but if Texas QB commit Sam Ehlinger has his way, Thompson will flip his commitment to the Longhorns:
After balling with @given__talent in Oregon, I know we need him! Let's get him to Austin #WeWantJosh
— Sam Ehlinger (@sehlinger3) July 15, 2016
Thompson responded to Ehlinger's tweet in a seemingly positive way:
#Respect https://t.co/wvqcszKlfO
— Josh Thompson ⁶ (@given__talent) July 15, 2016
Thompson, who was 7-on-7 teammates with Ehlinger at The Opening, does have interest in Texas, but has yet to receive an offer from the Longhorns. However, he plans to attend Under the Lights in Austin in a few weeks, and could pick up an offer then.
The 6'0", 182-pounder is ranked as the No. 63 cornerback and No. 627 overall prospect in the country.
Texas TE prospect decommits from Longhorns
Three-star tight end Major Tennison (Bullard, TX) had been committed to Texas since October, but he re-opened his recruitment this week and is expected to commit to Alabama, according to Hank South of 247sports.
Tennison is expected to visit Tuscaloosa on Thursday, and should commit then.
The 6'6", 245-pounder is ranked as the No. 16 tight end and No. 445 overall prospect in the country.
WR commit "85 percent" solid on Longhorns
Four-star wide receiver Damion Miller (Tyler, TX) has been committed to Texas for over a year, but he says he is still considering other schools.
“Right now, I’m probably about 85 percent committed to Texas,” Miller told 247sports. “Coach (Charlie) Strong said he wants players to visit other schools because there might be other schools out there that we don’t know about that might be best for us.”
Ole Miss and Texas A&M are the two other schools that Miller is also considering. The 6'1", 193-pounder is ranked as the No. 19 wide receiver and No. 139 overall prospect in the country.
