The Texas Longhorns are already halfway through the regular season, but that doesn't mean they've slowed down on the recruiting trail. In fact, the Longhorns' have already locked up seven recruits in the 2017 class, including five four-star prospects. Here are all the latest Texas football recruiting news:
Newman decommits
Three-star offensive lineman Xavier Newman (DeSoto, TX) had committed to Texas in April, but announced on Twitter this week that he is decommitting from the Longhorns after he visited Colorado this past weekend.

The 6'2", 272-pounder is ranked as the No. 27 guard and No. 525 overall prospect in the country.
4-star OL "really interested" in Texas
Chuck Filiaga, a four-star offensive lineman from Aledo, TX, is still considering eight schools, and the Longhorns are one of them. In fact, Filiaga told 247sports that he's "really interested" in Texas:
“I haven’t really been paying attention too much because I’ve been busy with school and football,” Filiaga said of Texas' season to this point. “But I talk to Coach (Matt) Mattox a lot, and he keeps me in the loop. I’m still really interested. Coach Strong is a great coach. He really does want Texas to succeed and grow as a program. I honestly believe he can do that. I would like to see him stay.”
The 6'6", 325-pounder is ranked as the No. 16 offensive tackle and No. 98 overall prospect in the country.
Thompson "100 percent committed" to Longhorns
Three-star cornerback Josh Thompson (Nacogdoches, TX) flipped his commitment from TCU to Texas this summer, and after visiting Austin again this weekend, confirmed that he is still solid on that commitment.
“I’m 100 percent committed,” Thompson said. “That’s where I want to go. I think once the secondary gets on the same page, Texas will do well season. I feel like (Vance) Bedford is going to keep changing things.”
The 6'0", 182-pounder is ranked as the No. 41 cornerback and No. 394 overall prospect in the country.
