Four-star defensive end Taquon Graham (Temple, TX) was widely expected to pledge to the Texas Longhorns on Friday, his self-imposed commitment date, but announced on Twitter that he is pushing back that date.
That appeared to be bad news for Texas (especially since he is "exploring out-of-state options right now"), but that's not the case. Graham told 247sports that the Longhorns are still his frontrunner - he just didn't feel comfortable committing at this time.
“Everything with me and Texas is the same,” he said. “The relationships are great. Nothing happened as people have been saying. It’s the same relationship with Coach (Charlie) Strong, Coach BJ (Brian Jean-Mary) and Coach (Brick) Haley.
“It’s like a childhood team. Being so close, you walk into the store and there is Cowboys stuff and Longhorns stuff. That’s everything you see around here. I grew up watching it at my house. Also, the coaches. When they recruit you, it’s an all in effort.”
The 6'3", 251-pounder is also considering California, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, TCU and USC.
Graham is ranked as the No. 12 weak-side defensive end and No. 169 overall prospect in the country.
