What started with eight teams, maximizing the momentum generated by Team USA's gold-medal run during the Atlanta 1996 Olympics, has opened a new horizon for female athletes in all sports – not just basketball.
"The success of the WNBA is bigger than traditional ways of measurement. It's changed the thinking, and has girls interested in playing sports," said Texas Women's Basketball assistant coach Tina Thompson.
