Women's Basketball claims four Big 12 Conference annual awards

AUSTIN, Texas – Junior point guard Brooke McCarty became the first player in University of Texas women's basketball history to be named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Year, highlighting four key honors earned by the Longhorns as part of the 2016-17 Big 12 Conference Awards, announced Wednesday by the league office in Irving, Texas.

Texas head coach Karen Aston, in her fifth season at the helm of the Longhorns, was named the Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year for the first time in her career. Senior guard Brianna Taylor was named the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year, marking the second consecutive year in which a Texas player has earned that recognition.
