Three takeaways from recent developments in college sports:
1. Rethinking redshirt rules
The American Football Coaches Association is sending a proposal to the NCAA that would allow players to appear in four games at any time before losing a season of eligibility, Fox Sports reported. Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby, who heads the NCAA's Division I football oversight committee, suggested that it might be a good time to revisit the rule. As is, an injury within the first four games is the only way to secure a redshirt season. So you get situations like Baylor's Nick Florence losing a season of eligibility in 2011 when he replaced an injured Robert Griffin III late in the season against Texas Tech.
