Wednesday’s 86-80 loss to the Xavier Musketeers in the First Four of the NCAA Tournament in Dayton by the Texas Longhorns ended a disappointing season with a 19-16 record under second-year head coach Rodney Terry.

As soon as the game ended, reports immediately emerged that athletics director Chris Del Conte will move on from Terry, who took Texas to the Elite Eight as the interim head coach in 2022-23 following the termination of Chris Beard. Over the last two seasons, however, the Horns experienced diminishing returns under Terry, losing in the second round of the NCAA Tournament last year before barely making the Big Dance and bowing out quickly this year.
