Hours before the Tennessee Volunteers held off the Texas A&M Aggies 6-5 in Omaha to win the College World Series and the program’s first national title in baseball, the Texas Longhorns fired head coach David Pierce after eight seasons on the Forty Acres. Texas A&M head coach Jim Schlossnagle immediately became one of the top candidates to replace Pierce and reunite with athletics director Chris Del Conte, Schlossnagle’s boss with the TCU Horned Frogs from 2009-2017.
So it fell to a TexAgs reporter to close out Schlossnagle’s post-loss press conference with the most difficult question of all, citing the “rumor circulating today about a specific job opening” and asking about the head coach’s future in Aggieland.
