UT president Greg Fenves on how Tom Herman will compete, Shaka Smart's future after 22-loss year

Don't expect a new athletic director at Texas in the near future.

UT President Greg Fenves told The Dallas Morning News' editorial board Monday that he expects current athletic director Mike Perrin to remain on the job at least through the 2017 calendar year.

"I do," Fenves said, adding that his agreement with Perrin, who does not have an official contract, runs through the 2017-18 academic year.

There had been media reports that Texas might be considering an athletic director search as early as late spring.

A former Texas player under Darrell Royal and a Houston trial lawyer, Perrin was appointed as interim athletic director in September 2015 after the ouster of the controversial Steve Patterson.
