AUSTIN, Texas – A national championship performance from sophomore shot putter Tripp Piperi and four Longhorn men advancing to Friday's finals highlighted day one of the NCAA Track & Field championship for the Texas Longhorns. Day two will feature women's competition at the four-day national meet hosted by The University of Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Piperi became the second Longhorn in the last six years to win the NCAA outdoor shot put title, joining 2014 winner Ryan Crouser. His winning toss of 69-3 ¼ was a personal best and improved on his mark as the second-best shot putter in UT history, trailing only Crouser, the 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist.
