AUSTIN - Jerrod Heard is back at quarterback for Texas and may stay there.
Recruited as a dual-threat quarterback out of Denton Guyer, Heard shifted to receiver early last season. But with Buechele out with a sore shoulder, he returned to quarterback this week as Ehlinger’s backup. In a special Wildcat package, Heard ran eight times for 39 yards and two touchdowns in a 56-0 win over San Jose State. Afterward, coach Tom Herman indicated that he might want to keep the package for a change of pace.
“I think being back there and communicating with the offensive line is something you lose,” Heard said.
