The eyes of the nation were on the Cotton Bowl on Saturday for the Red River Showdown, the 115th meeting between the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners, as 7,252,00 viewers tuned in for the game on FOX, according to Neilsen Media Research.
Those viewership numbers made it the most-watched sporting event of the day and the most-watched college football game on FOX so far this season. Overall, only Notre Dame-Georgia (9.29 million viewers) and Texas-LSU (8.63 million viewers) have had higher viewership numbers during the 2019 season so far.
Viewership of the Red River Showdown was up 29 percent over last season’s game and made it the most-watched edition of the annual grudge match since 2009.
