Texas suspends WR McNeal for rules violation

Texas has suspended wide receiver DeAndre McNeal indefinitely for a violation of team rules, a spokesperson confirmed to ESPN.com.

McNeal, a sophomore, played in 10 games last season but did not record a catch. Multiple sources told ESPN that McNeal was sent home to Mesquite, Texas, this week and is not expected to be with the team when the Longhorns begin fall practice on Saturday.

Texas coach Charlie Strong is expected to address the suspension at his preseason news conference on Friday.

McNeal, a former four-star recruit, came to Texas as a hybrid wide receiver/tight end and produced one carry for 9 yards in his freshman season.
