AUSTIN — For the second time in a week, a coveted offensive coordinator candidate has spurned Texas’ offer of a promotion and a big raise. Where Charlie Strong and the Longhorns turn next is anyone’s guess.
Tulsa’s Sterlin Gilbert, who had been reported by multiple media outlets to have reached an agreement to take over UT’s struggling offense, turned down the Longhorns’ offer and has removed his name from consideration. ESPN was the first to report Gilbert’s decision to remain at Tulsa, where he’s spent one season as a co-offensive coordinator.
On Wednesday, TCU co-offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie turned down an earlier offer from Strong and elected to stay with the Horned Frogs.
