LANDOVER, Md. - Tom Herman had the rare second chance to make a first impression.
Throughout a one hour and 26 minute weather delay at FedEx Field, a whole lot of Texas fans waited to see how Herman and the No. 23 Longhorns would navigate the fourth quarter and avoid a second straight loss to Maryland. Things had to be different in Herman’s second year as head coach, right? This was a chance to set a foundation after an offseason of cautious optimism.
Then the teams came back, the curtain went up - and Texas committed three consecutive turnovers on its final three possessions needing a go-ahead touchdown, falling to Maryland, 34-29, Saturday.
