AUSTIN -- The Longhorns received some positive news regarding freshman safety Caden Sterns' health on Tuesday.
Texas officials announced that Sterns, who exited Saturday's Big 12 title game loss to Oklahoma with a knee injury and did not play in the second half, will not need surgery. On Tuesday, the school described the injury as a lower leg.
Sterns is expected to be ready in time for the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1. He will continue to rehab and be treated.
Texas also announced that senior defensive end Breckyn Hager accidentally cut his hand following Saturday's Big 12 title game.
