The Texas Longhorns’ quarterback of the future had his first chance to start for the Junipero Serra Cavaliers on Friday, falling 27-21 to rival Long Beach Poly in overtime to kick off his six-game season.
Murphy struggled to find his rhythm in the first half, thanks in large part to the pressure brought by Long Beach Poly. The Jackrabbits regularly blitzed multiple defenders and resorted to a zero blitz quite frequently in order to take advantage of the inexperience from Junipero Serra. Murphy was unable to find time to find open receivers and was unable to throw in rhythm due to the pressure.
