In early February, Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman revealed that offensive guard Patrick Hudson was taking some time away from the team to consider his future. On Monday, as the Horns started spring practice, Herman said that Hudson has decided to medically retire from the game.
The 6’5, 325-pounder did not play during the 2018 season after suffering from exertional heat cramps that resulted in a weeklong stay in the hospital and put Hudson’s future in football in question. In previous seasons, he suffered a Lisfranc fracture in his foot and then saw his 2017 season end in the second game when he tore his ACL.
